Writing down what 1st graders say

Teaching first grade has its ups and downs. Working with 23 six year olds can probably stress anyone out. But I have to say they say the darnedest things. I have learned to write down what my students say and read them on tough days. For example I had my hand over my eyes and then stretched and a student came up to me and asked..."Do you need a vacation? You look like it." Now how funny can that be. I recommend writing down what they say and check back throughout the days and really enjoy them. Share with other teachers and adults. Have their parents know. It is a great memory that should be cherished. Could you imagine writing everything funny, or interesting a student has said and look back on it. It would be amazing!!!!

  1. My mom taught 1st and 2nd grade for 30 years....she was always coming home with funny comments! She has since retired, but in her last 3 years, she actually did write down a lot of what her kids said and did, and is planning on writing a book about her "adventures" at some point!
