Oooh some picture books!

My students have a take home reader they take home nightly and read. When they are finished they bring it back to school and switch it for a new one. Well yesterday I had a student come up to my desk in the morning holding a book with little post its in it. She whispered to me to take a peek at the posted pages. As I opened the book, I saw a little boy naked (barbie like) in about 7 of the pages. I had to hold back my laughter, realizing that the book was from a previous teacher who was at the school and I had never read it. Now I will not share the name of the book or the author but lets just say it is pretty surprising from this author. I am one of those teachers that has to go and share this to others, so I did. Once I got to reading the "Go Folders" (daily take home folders) I read the note from the parents, explaining how they could barely get through the story because they were all giggling like young children and they loved how it brought so much humor. I just have to say kudos to those parents instead of some who would FREAK out at something that is pretty humorous. Needless to say that book is now in the recycling bin and the moral of my story is to look through your books before you put them in a leveled reader bin for the students...you just never know!!! :)
